Then vs. Now: 20 years of Aegis

October 5, 2026The Aegis Companies

To celebrate 20 years of Aegis, we imagined what our story might look like on a magazine cover. The result is our Then vs. Now series, with periodical-inspired covers imagining the Aegis headlines of 2006, 2016, and today.

Join us as we envision three key dimensions of Aegis that have evolved dramatically since 2006: the tools and technology behind our work, the clients and projects that expanded our reach, and the people and culture that made that growth possible.

Tools & technology

Before building our own technology, Aegis tested the limits of the tools already at our fingertips. Over the last two decades, our teams have turned challenges they encountered in project controls into new ideas and, eventually, in-house tools, including Rubix, Aegis Cloud, and Aegis Analytics, which later became Metius.

The technology has changed, but the thinking behind it has stayed grounded in the same principle: human construction expertise remains at the center of every solution we create.

The tech behind our work

Clients & projects

Aegis began with 39 projects, 15 clients, and deep Mid-Atlantic roots. Twenty years later, our portfolio is approaching 8,000 projects, with work that has taken our teams into new markets, sectors, and all seven continents. That growth has also expanded how we support projects, from our project controls foundation to specialized services shaped by our clients’ evolving needs and industry demands.

20 years of projects

People & culture

Aegis started with five people, one small office, and a big vision for the potential impact of project controls on construction. Today, more than 200 Aegonians work across 11 offices, bringing different backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise to the work we do.

As Aegis has grown, so have the ways we learn together, celebrate together, and create opportunities for people to build their careers here. Some things have grown more than we could have imagined in 2006, especially the snack and merch budget.
