Flattening the learning curve: Inside Aegis Bootcamp

September 15, 2026The Aegis Companies

At Aegis, onboarding a new project controls engineer used to take months of on-the-job training. Each new employee’s professional background and varying familiarity with construction fundamentals made getting up to speed unpredictable.

For the past two years, Aegis’ Bootcamp onboarding program has given over 40 new project controls professionals, whether new at Aegis or growing within the company, five focused weeks to learn the job and make an immediate impact – before they step fully into their roles.

The program is rigorous by design, but no one goes through it alone. Participants train with senior experts, work through real project scenarios, and build the technical and communication skills our clients expect. It offers people with different levels of construction experience a structured way to build these skills and pursue new opportunities, while giving Aegis another path to develop the talent behind its work.

Building a better way to learn

Bootcamp grew from a practical challenge: how could Aegis prepare new project controls professionals more effectively without asking them to learn the job while balancing project assignments? The answer was to give learning its own time and space. For new hires, that includes the support and security of a full-time position from day one. For current Aegonians, it creates a structured opportunity to build new skills and move into another area of the business. For five weeks, participants focus on project controls through live construction, hands-on work, and guidance from experienced professionals who understand what the job demands. During bootcamp, they are paid the full salary for the job they will eventually perform.

Senior Vice President Wayne Manning and Planning and Scheduling President Jodi Staub have helped shape Bootcamp into what it is today. In the video below, they share why Aegis made the investment, what participants can expect from the program, and why developing great project controls professionals starts with giving people the tools to succeed.

From Bootcamp to boots on the ground

The impact of Bootcamp becomes clearest in how participants put that training into practice. Graduates have entered the program with different degrees, careers, and varying levels of familiarity with construction. Some use this opportunity to begin their careers in project controls, while others use it as a bridge within Aegis to a new professional direction. They all leave with a common technical base, practical experience, and full preparation for the job ahead. From there, each person builds on that foundation to make an impact in their full-time role.

Temi used Bootcamp to turn a growing interest in construction into a career in project controls. Onyeka entered while making a career change and now contributes to client work as a Dispute Resolution Analyst. Ana spent years at Aegis as a construction manager before using Bootcamp to transition into planning and scheduling.

Hear directly from Bootcamp graduates about what challenged them, how they learned, the support they found, and how they have put that experience to work at Aegis.

Each arrived with different experiences, strengths, and goals. They shared an opportunity to learn, a team invested in their success, and a determination to rise to the challenge.
